We are holding open auditions for our next production – a double bill of one-act comedies to be shown on Friday 22nd /Saturday 23rd June 2018 at Rye Community Centre.
Auditions will be help at The Old Scout Hut (by the entrance to Leisure Centre Car Park) on Tuesday 10th & Thursday 12th April between 7pm-9pm. These are drop-in sessions so turn up anytime, but it would be helpful to let us know your interest. Email

The Ladybirds by Tony Layton
A Village drama group has lost all their men. A bright young director comes along to help them out, by entering a drama competition with a play she has written herself. The play is controversial, concerning a lesbian couple who want a baby – the Vicar’s wife tries to ban the production…

Betty:                   Older female  (60’s+)-  quick witted, retired matron
Faye:                     Younger female (30’s +) – aspiring actress,
Francesca:          Young female – director (20’s+), enthusiastic, ambitious, angry
Julie:                     Young female (teens/20’s), college girl, fresh innocence
Babs:                     Female, general dogsbody (middle-aged, 40’s?)
Agatha Frost:     Female, Vicar’s wife, chair of Community Council (middle-aged)
Drama Judge:   Older male – judge at drama competition (Minor role)
Jenny:                  Younger female, prize winner (non-speaking minor role)

Publican Gosforth is running the village gala. By mistake bad personal news from Milly Carter is publicised over the PA system. Milly’s fiancé Stewart Stokes becomes extremely aggravated and drowns his sorrows with alcohol. Councillor Mrs Pearce, after the most disorganised greeting, is electrocuted by the PA system. Gosforth’s Fete develops into chaos and the play climaxes to complete disaster.
